Just a place for my stuff (e.g. any new, or previously unreleased, shots that I am particularly fond of).

Suggestion: as photos are posted newest first, one should peruse back to forward (especially if they have anal tendencies).

And as always - comments and criticisms are welcomed, both on composition and technique, and on content. Thanks for looking.

Nawset Photography > Roman Candles
Spent the evening lighting off fireworks and drinking way too much (and yes, both at the same time). As is tradition, in the middle of the show, we invite some of the fairer sex out to hold Roman Candles and giggle. This is the result. I kind of like what happened with long exposures of the mayhem.

And is it me, or does the head on the right look like Bridget Fonda (esp Point Of No Return)?

We could only find these four. Took a chance standing directly below.

Today I participated in the first-ever Keene Photography Club Scavenger Hunt. Five teams headed out into the streets with twenty-five items that we needed to shoot and only two-hours to do so. Had a complete blast and my teammate Jennifer and I managed to complete all twenty-five.

The above represents my entry for "Interesting Stranger". I have seen this guy since I moved to Keene and have always wanted to shoot him but was afraid to ask; it became much easier being able to hid behind a scavenger hunt list. The composition is a little mug-shotty, I will agree, but I only had a couple of minutes to shoot before jumping back in a car and heading to the next item.

Nawset Photography > Tread

My incredible wife and I went mountain biking yesterday; her second time ever in the woods on a bike. She blew me away: mud on the legs and back; an incredible stream crossing; pulling on the flats. Who would have thought? I love you sweetie! Here's to many more rides together.

Post ride iPhone shot.

Nawset Photography > Burn

So, my friend Shirley Von Winklestein* called me this morning and mentioned that she was having new tires installed on the above 469 horsepower beast and wanted to wear out the existing ones. Not wanting to give up an opportunity to be involved in the fun, I suggested setting up my camera low and wide behind the car to get a few 'action' shots.

After getting shut down at the first location we tried, we decided to drive to New Jersey* and once there, found a nice quiet side street to let loose. I have to be honest, Shirley* provided one of the most awesome displays of driving prowess I have ever seen. This was the beginning of the final run, each of which lasted 10-15 seconds and left sizable patches of tire. By the time this run was completed, you could hardly see the Benz behind a wall of smoke.

* Name, license plate number, and state changed to protect the innocent.

Nawset Photography > Mary Poppins II

On Day 135 of project 365, I took a desperation upshot of a patio umbrella at our local brewpub. Slightly more than two years later, I faced the same situation. Looks like they decided to go a little more flashy this summer.

Nawset Photography > Schrader Valve

Seriously Pete? A shot of a valve stem? I popped a new tab in my browser for this?

Yes, Reader - the above is a shot of one of the valve stem caps on the summer car. I just replaced the tires and today was the first time that I have driven it since last fall. That said, I tried to make it as artsy as I could (macro lens, shallow dof, etc).

But why Pete? Why a boring valve stem?

Good question, Reader - to be honest, I wasn't planning to have to shoot anything this week. What with the end of the world predictions and all. And no, I didn't expect to be raptured but did figure that I would be too busy double-tapping zombies to care about this photo project.

Important Factoid: Seriously, this is a Schrader valve (I wasn't trying to be cute). For more, click here.

Nawset Photography > DSO

Spent the evening at a local theater grooving to the Dark Star Orchestra doing an incredible cover of a Grateful Dead concert; a 11-30-1973 GD concert to be exact.

We managed to sneak down to the edge of the stage. The above was a mid-set iPhone shot. Had to get low to capture the cables in the foreground.

Noise and over-saturation provided by Apple. And I love them both.

Nawset Photography > In Memoriam

A local skatepark half-pipe was recently graced by the above tribute to local youth, Jorge "Ola" Arteaga, who died earlier this year. I dig graffiti and shoot it whenever I can. I thought this might have been a Bansky template but after I saw a picture of Ola, I realized it was more the work of a talented artist expressing his loss.

I hope the city doesn't paint over it.
