Nawset > Nawset Photography  > things > dogfish head
Those of you who know me, know that I likes my beer. And I like Dogfish Head beer best. So, in my own OCD way, I have decided to go on a quest to sample (and photograph) every DFH bottled beer I can get my hands on. My request of you is that if you happen to stumble on a varietal not pictured below, buy it! I will pay you back, I promise.

UPDATE (2011-06-20): Still looking for Zwaanend'ale, Festina Lente, and, of course, other years of the fabled 120. I am also looking for several DFH collaborations including Life and Limb, Golden Revolution, Portamarillo, and Isabelle Proximus (the last three being highly unlikely).

This project has gotten really expensive (but oh so tasty).

Boring Legal Disclaimer: In stark contrast to any and all other shots on this site, these images are not for sale. I would never attempt to profit on the mastery of Dogfish Head, makers of some of best beers I have ever tasted. Just have them here to share the love. That said, help me support my habit and go buy something; I have several sweet cat shots on here that will make you cry.

Nawset Photography > Aprihop (2011)

Tried this one on a sunny Saturday afternoon in late March. While it was cold outside, this made me think summer. Magic Hat's #9 is one of my favorite summer ales. This exceeds #9 is all respects.

First time imbibed: (March, 2011)
Nawset Photography > Au Courant (2003)

Won't get to sample this one. This incredibly-rare bottle was provided by Dogfish Head aficionado Mike, who included it (as a surprise) in with a bottle of Wrath of Pecant I purchased from him on eBay. Maybe I will stumble on a full one at some point, although I highly doubt it; it was last bottled in 2003.

Thanks again Mike.

Nawset Photography > Bitches Brew (2010)

Haven't sampled this rare ale yet but am happy that I managed to acquire a bottle. No small feat; I had to go to eBay after a thorough check of every DFH dealer within 100 miles yielded nada.

Nawset Photography > Black & Blue (2010)

Haven't sampled this one yet.

Nawset Photography > Burton Baton (2010)

Love this one. Has an oaky taste that I liken to 90 Minute, without the subtle malty sweetness, or even a Harpoon Leviathan (a lesser but solid imperial IPA).

First time imbibed: (February, 2011)
Nawset Photography > Chateau Jiahu (2009)

Haven't sampled this one yet. All I can say is, "intriguing".

Nawset Photography > Chicory Stout (2010)

Ordinarily not a stout fan (other than the occasional Guinness) but have to say this project has opened my eyes to brews beyond my pilsner/ale comfort zone. This was quite pleasant but even if it isn't my favorite, the St. John's Wort included in the ingredient list made me happy (or maybe it was the alcohol, who's to say).

First time imbibed: (April, 2011)
Nawset Photography > Festina Peche (2011)

I was mildly reluctant to try this one having had bad experiences with Flemish Sours (e.g. Monk's Cafe) but really enjoyed it. So much so, that I have happily worked through two four packs this month. It is the perfect summer beer; very light and fruity while slightly sour. Would work well with Thai food or sushi.

First time imbibed: (June, 2011)
Nawset Photography > Fort (2009)

Haven't sampled this one yet. Waiting for the right meal; this seems like a perfect desert beer. And at 18% ABV, it should be a happy ending to a good meal.

Nawset Photography > Golden Era (2007)

Haven't sampled this one yet. Looking forward to it; a pilsner with 9% ABV. And it is an incredibly rare one to boot. As folklore has it, for a very short time, this replaced the politically-incorrect Golden Shower (see next image).

Footnote: the link below says that the first time Golden Era was brewed was 2009. Well, the site is incorrect. It was first produced after Golden Shower was shut down by the State of Delaware (for mildly obvious reasons). The bottle above was bottled in 2007.

Nawset Photography > Golden Shower (2006)

My absolute favorite of the bunch due to the name. Kudos to you DFH for pushing the limit and releasing a porn-inspired beer.

This actually only had a very short run in 2006 sue to the name and was replaced by Golden Era, once picture back.

Haven't sampled this rare one yet.

Nawset Photography > Hellhound On My Ale (2011)

This is one of Dogfish Head's limited run beers for 2011 and, similar to Bitches Brew in 2010, honors a music legend. In this case, Robert Johnson.

I have managed to acquire a couple of bottles and have enjoyed one already. Love it - a very strong ale (kind of similar to Squall) with just a hint of lemon. Highly recommend it if you can find it.

Nawset Photography > Immort Ale (2007)

Yet another not-so-common offering from DFH. Haven't sampled this one yet but I am a big fan of maple syrup so...

Nawset Photography > Indian Brown Ale (2010)

Not a huge fan of brown ales but have to say, this one has grown on me. It is mild and goes down easy. Wouldn't order it necessarily but would happily accept if offered.

Interesting footnote: As of March, 2011, you can no longer purchase Indian Brown Ale in the state of New Hampshire as it contains brown sugar. I guess they are concerned that ABV will increase in bottle as any remaining yeast eats the sugars. Not likely as it has been filtered. Picked up one of the last six packs in Keene. Will savor each one.

First time imbibed: (February, 2011)
Nawset Photography > Liquor de Malt (2010)

Ok, this is the rarest of the bunch. First bottled in 2009, it made a very brief, one day and around 300 bottle, appearance in 2010, and this is one of them. What I like the most about this is the fact that it is in a 40oz bottle with a plastic screw cap and, in fact, comes with a custom, hand-stamped, brown paper bag (a picture of which can be found at the end of this gallery).

Haven't sampled this one yet but feel like when I do, it should be under a highway overpass. In fact, there is one nearby that would be perfect. Will have to photograph the occasion: I am not drinking this whole thing alone.

Tried this one on a sunny Saturday afternoon in late March. While it was cold outside, this made me think summer. Magic Hat's #9 is one of my favorite summer ales. This exceeds #9 is all respects.
