Early in 2009, I decided to capture an image every calendar day for an entire year. 365 days later, I have more gray hair, have aged a decade and alienated loved ones, but I did it and, most importantly, I didn’t miss a single day. Comments and criticisms are welcomed, both on composition and technique, and on content. Thanks for looking.

Art Underfoot (Day 80)
Pay attention to the manhole covers you walk over; some can be quite beautiful (...not that I am saying this one is necessarily).
Top five reasons why manhole covers are round:
(1) A round cover cannot fall through its opening, whereas another shape might.
(2) Circular covers do not need to be rotated to align them with an opening.
(3) Human beings have a roughly circular cross-section.
(4) A round manhole cover can be more easily moved by being rolled.
(5) Corners of another shape cover, if dislodged, could puncture a tire.
Now you have dinner conversation tonight. You're welcome.

on April 3, 2009I don't imagine I'll ever just walk over a manhole cover again without taking note of it somohow.
