Early in 2009, I decided to capture an image every calendar day for an entire year. 365 days later, I have more gray hair, have aged a decade and alienated loved ones, but I did it and, most importantly, I didn’t miss a single day. Comments and criticisms are welcomed, both on composition and technique, and on content. Thanks for looking.

Sprocket (Day 110)
Part of an old coal conveyor that, surprisingly, is still in use.

on April 28, 2009James and Christine,
I completely agree. I actually tried to increase the dof but unfortunately I was hand holding and the light was low; even wide open I was at 1/50th of a second. Increasing ISO wasn't an option on my G10 as it made it way too grainy. I tried different focus points, including the actual sprocket but then the blurred crank was too distracting. This would have been a perfect opportunity for a little fill flash.

on April 25, 2009I agree with Jim however I'll add that the lighting is perfect.

on April 25, 2009I'm thinking this is really a shot of the crank on one of your old bikes that's been hanging in the garage for years. Was it just a little too heavy to ride? I'm thinkin' so.

on April 25, 2009Surprisingly clean for anything that transports coal. I like the comp on this but I wish the depth of field was deeper so the teeth of the sprocket were more in focus.. Also, now that I know what it is, I want to see a wider view - any dirty wide shots?
